South Dakota Trip

A week ago, Saturday--Nase called me up in the morning and told me to check my e-mail that he'd gotten me an early Mother's Day present... Well, he did good!! He used his sky miles to fly me out to South Dakota for 3 days with him (he was on a work trip in Rapid City, SD right by Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills). My sister, Annie is staying w/us for a while right now & she was kind enough to watch the kids--and Nase's sister, Lea came and helped out for a day and a half... It all just worked out so we were able to have an amazing getaway just the two of us--almost to good to be true, so I made sure to prove it really did happen w/a lot of pics :) - The Black Hills are beautiful & full of neat wildlife, and Mt Rushmore is really amazing--especially to be standing right there!

We went to Custer State Park--just had time to drive through, but it's a really beautiful drive, w/tons of neat wildlife.
This guy trotted over to us like we brought him a treat or something...I should have given him my granola bar. (Antelope in the background)

Those dots are a herd of buffalo.

Turkeys

Antelope

White tail deer...different from the Mule Deer we have here.
This guy's just cillin'...
...at the lodge.

just a really pretty reflective lake...wish we'd had some poles and bait.

This is the Crazy Horse Monument (Sioux Indian chief)...they do bus tours up to the top, but they weren't running that day, so we just got a pic from afar.

cool rocks

I was expecting Mt. Rushmore to be neat, but I really was blown away!

There's a wooden boardwalk trail that goes down and around the monument and you can get differnt views from there.

"Strenuous Trail?"...oooh, a wooden walk-way!--good thing I'm in shape! (not :p )

That's a crack in a cave.
...which ones do we look like? :) :p

There's a big amphatheater below the monument, but they weren't doing any kind of show when we were there.

...In case you were wondering :) (I'm a history nerd)

90% of Mt. Rushmore was carved by dynamite.

...I've always wanted to push down one of those old dynamite blasters.

I like the buffalo chillin' at the lodge. Well, I like all the pictures really. I'm jealous you got to go but it was fun babysitting the kids while you were gone.
