Tulips to sing with

This year is a bit of a deja vu...6 years ago I was teaching music in Kahuku, pregnant with Leka & due in July. There are some differences--In Hawaii I was teaching for the Money (I still tried to do a good job, but it was a full-time teaching job that paid the bills And tuition)...I wouldn't necessarily say the job I'm doing now I'm in for the $ (it doesn't pay much...PE, Music & such teachers in Utah get hired, and paid, as Prep Aides...I'm no one's aide & I get no paid prep time.) No, I just thought this was a good window of opportunity to keep my foot in the door with my career & the part-time hours work well with being a mom.

A lot of parts of my job I love & am happy to be doing for not a big pay-check. However, *Some* days I'm less than stoked to be over-worked & under-paid(!) My job does get stressful & has a good amount of pressure. There are A Lot of performances to prepare the kids for (at least 1 every month--sometimes as many as 4). Now we are preparing for our big year-end school-wide Patriotic Program--I'm excited because I've never had the opportunity to organize such a performance/event. But I'm really hoping we'll pull it off well!!

July & Feb came with the challenge of getting the 3rd grade ready for their program. The teacher gave me the music & overhead sheets w/the lyrics...and off we went--1o songs to get down in less than 2 mo's! Well they did pull it off & gave a super-star performance! (I won't take Full credit because their teachers did work with them some...though, I will take Most credit ;) ;)
When I came back after the weekend one of the 3rd grade teachers gave me a bouquet of tulips to thank me for all my work I did with the students. It's SO nice to be appreciated!!
I do really like the staff I work with--they're good at what they do and they're appreciative of what I do.

If you think someone deserves a compliment--give them one!! (It's made a big difference in my job to hear that the teachers & students like and appreciate what I do :)

**On a side note, I've felt kind of guilty that I don't take a lot of what I do at work & apply it at home. Both kids love to sing (especially Leka has had a sweet little voice since birth & love of music). Sometimes I'll sing some of our songs with them...and for FHE the other night we did 5 speckled frogs with my visual aides--they loved it.
I think my problem is I'm not really in the mood to 'bring work home' ...I'm making a mental note/commitment that when my job's done this summer break I'll do a lot more of my music activities with the kids.**
