Virtual Vacation

Winter Doldrums keep at bay!!

It's that time of year...the holidays are over--& it's just a cold, dark winter that stretches before me...this is when the winter doldrums threaten to creep in.

I really can't complain about high 30's/low 40's--that's warm & balmy for mid January (but what's getting to me is the inversion going on--not just because it's so smoggy & yucky, but I worry about Austin breathing the dirty air w/his asthma...don't want to take him outside too much--I'm actually rooting for it to snow, so it'll clear up.)
....................

What I'd really like is a Tropical Retreat!!

So I decided I'd go for one on my blog! :)

At the beach with Leka--8 mo's old

High flyin' baby

At Laie Point

Daddy with his favorite girl

A nice refreshing dip at Waimea Falls

Baby in a tubie
(at Malaekahana - My favorite beach for Boogie Bording!)

Me & my pretty Wahine

Leka's always been a total water baby!

At the PCC (Polynesian Cultural Center)

(You may have noticed all my Hawaii pics are of Leka--I didn't get a digital camera til we moved back to the mainland...but after Leka was born I did Snapfish so I could have her pics online to share w/family...I never scanned any of my other HI pics.)

However--here are some of my other favorite things for this Virtual Vacation:
Dukes--my favorite restaurant...

...located right on Waikiki Beach.

My Favorite Hawaii treats--Malasadas & Matsumotos Shave Ice!..Mmmm!

{A lot of people ask why I would ever move back from Hawaii...but after living there for almost 5 years I really was ready to come home to the Mainland--I missed family, being so far away...I missed the seasons & I love the Rocky Mountains that I grew up in--plus I'd been pretty much everywhere on the island & I was getting a little Island/cabin fever--wanted to go on a real road trip.}
But I can't wait to go back for a real vacation--no school, no work, no real life! (This blog one will have to do for now)

Although, some things in Hawaii I never got tired of ..Can never get tired of seeing coconut trees swaying in the balmy breeze!

..Or the big waves at North Shore--I used to drive by these every day going to work.

Or all the beautiful floweres! (can't wait til my plumeria plant blossoms!)
Snorkeling--my Favorite thing to do in Hawaii--Love all the beautiful varieties of fish & sea life to be seen!

...I went snorkeling w/my Mom when I was 3 days overdue pregnant w/Leka :)
I got tired of sitting around waiting for baby to come so I said "Lets go snorkeling!" & my Mom said "Ok, but how will we know if your water breaks??" haha

But what I'd like to see most in Hawaii is my cousins & family that are over there right now! (You guys are torturing me w/all your Hawaii Facebook pics...but that's OK, I Love Ya!!)

Oh man Katie that was the best! It made me want to be in Hawaii so bad! Your pictures are just spectacular. What a wonderful experience for you to have had.
Duke's I love Duke's!!! When Jessie and I went to Hawaii when we were nannies....there was a Dukes at the resort we stayed at. We would order the best drinks like the Lava Fall. Ok so I liked the place so much I actually have a plate from the restaurant.
I was just telling Robert the other day how fun it would be to go to Hawaii right now because yes this weather is getting soooo old...cold! I want to be rich and go travel when ever. So thank you for your blog entry because it was almost like being there!
One of my favorite things is when you get off the airplane and you smell the ocean and the sent of plumaria flowers.

Yay for Hawaii!!! I want to go back so bad, too! The malasadas and matsumotos were also my favorite (how could they not be?) and the beach looks oh-so-nice right now. One of these days....

Oh! I also ran into Mark Bates in Broulim's last night!! He's doing good...still pretty much the same! They've got one little girl and one on the way. He said Steve and Dave are roommates in California somewhere, and Brian and Chris are both in med school - one in Arizona, one in Pennsylvania or something. Anyway, it was fun to see him and think about long-lost Ricks memories! :)

Oh, how I would love to be an island girl from November to march. This inversion stuff is really nasty. I wish I could have spent a few years there.

Katie, I could almost smell and taste Hawaii looking at your pictures. How fun! And Dukes! That's our favorite too! Thank you for the fun post. I love Hawaii pictures. I can't believe how much hair Leka had as a baby! Wow! She's so cute. Best of luck with Austin and the inversion - not too fun. We'll have to all get together one afternoon and let the kids play inside.
