A Scary Hairy Story

The scary story of my hair-cut (and pics :)
So I've been meaning to cut my hair for quite a while...it was down to the bottom of my back & it's So thick & heavy--it took forever to wash & I never styled it.

What I wanted was mid-back hair with some nice long layers at the bottom so it would lay nice, but not be too high maintenance.

So I get to the salon (I went with my friend, Shannon) & tell the girl what I want (it's a pretty simple, basic hair-cut, and I found out she's been doing hair for 6 years--so I think it will turn out fine)...And from what I saw of my wet hair after she cut it I thought it was good. --Well, then I got home, brush through my now dry hair and Holy Cow...it was AWFUL!!...Half of it was cut higher than the other half, her "layering" was all off--there were big obvious chuncks high up & some hanging down below the bottom of of my hair--and worst of all--there was one big obvious Chop layer a few inches up (when I told her I want 3 inches of layers--that meant 3 Blended inches at the bottom of my hair!!)

So great--my hair's a train wreck--I can't go back to the salon because: A--it was already hard enought to arrange everything for my kids to be watched so I could go in the first-place (Nase's out of town)...and B--No way in heck I'm going back to the ding-bat girl who ruined my hair--I don't trust her to fix it.

So I go to Shannon next door & show her what happened to my hair (I'm not just being obsessive, she sees all the same problems)...I beg her to come try'n fix it. So Shannon comes over--I hold her baby & a mirror & tell her what to chop off--which was a good few inches to remove all the damage that'd been done. Shannon has to go, but it looks like she pretty much evened it out, and I cut the hair in front.
(The sad thing is I donated 8 inches to Locks of Love at the salon--which they need like 11, but they'll take as short as 6 in, & either use it or sell it if they can't... and by the time I'd chopped off all the damage I may as well have donated a foot :p )

So I dry my hair, flat iron it & from what I see it just looks like a boring, blunt cut--and my hair's too thick to look good w/out layers... Then I took the kids & went to a Valentines party at the church and everyone's telling me how cute they think my hair is...& I just think they're being nice.

So I came home & decided to play around with my hair...and I got a little more used to it, and I decide it's not what I had in mind, but it's not bad...it sits kind of cute w/a little bit of a stack to it & has some lift w/all the weight off. Maybe in a few mo's after it grows a little I'll go to someone (who knows How to cut hair) & get some layers put in...but for now, I'm good with it.

Here are some pics:
(and don't mind the dumb expressions--I don't like taking pictures of myself)

And here's the back...I also got some hair color & put a glaze on my hair to bring out the red--the pics where I'm standing under the kitchen lights (top & bottom pic) bring out the red, but I think it looks pretty natural--just brightened up.

WOW! You did a great job fixing her mess! That is horrible what she did to you. But you did an incredible job fixing it. I looked at the pics before I read the story and I really do think it looks good. I'm picky about who cuts my hair because of all the curl, and I like my girl here in Layton, and Missy goes to a girl in Sugarhouse (I used to go to her when I lived in Salt Lake) that is really good too. If you need #'s were both happy to share.

Great patch job, I hate going to get my haircut because they never do it how I want. Luckily my sister is now a trained beautician and she ALWAYS does just what I want. I think it's because she knows me and knows what I can handle (or actually can't handle because I hate fixing my hair). But I love the color, very pretty. And about Lost, I am with you, I wish they would just get on with it, I am hooked on the show, but I get so frustrated sometimes because there is just always more questions. I think that is how they keep us coming back, just a lot of questions.

I think you hair is so cute. I really like it - it's really flattering (and I'm not saying that just cuz I'm your mom!)

Love,
Mom

Oh Katie that must have been the worst when you got home and saw that she had done a horrible job at cutting your hair. Sometimes you wonder what in the world they are thinking and how in the heck they have their license to cut hair. One time I went to get my hair highlighted and it turned green. The lady acted like nothing was wrong and so I had to talk to the manager and go through all this stuff. Finally the manager told me I had to let the lady that had ruined my hair have a chance to fix it. Long story short it was awful and I had to wait for it to grow out! Nothing like having green highlights and it was not even around St. Patrick's day!
How ever the pictures of you with your new hair cut look amazing!!!! I think you look so chick! You are one hot Momma!!!! Sometimes it takes a little bit to get used to the change and then it is all good.

Ok.. Not a comment, just a plea for help. How is it that you put captions above and below your pictures. I have tried a few different formats, but i am the furthest thing from a blog expert and captioning pictures is one of those things that I just can't figure out... So, how do you do it?
